Learner Policies
Reasonable Adjustments Policy
A reasonable adjustment is a change to teaching, assessment arrangements or communication that reduces a substantial disadvantage for a disabled learner or learner with a specific need. Adjustments are considered individually, agreed in advance wherever possible and must not compromise the assessment standard.

Purpose and scope
Purpose
Remove or reduce avoidable barriers so eligible learners can access learning and demonstrate the required competence fairly.
Scope
Applicants and learners with disability, health condition, learning difference, communication need or another access requirement across all delivery and assessment methods.
Responsibilities
ATC
Listen early, assess requests individually, consult the relevant assessor or awarding organisation and record agreed arrangements securely.
Learner
Share relevant information where comfortable, explain the barrier and tell ATC if an arrangement is not working.
Assessor or tutor
Implement approved arrangements consistently while preserving the assessment standard and confidentiality.
How the policy works
Tell ATC as early as possible, using the published contact route or a tutor, and describe the task or barrier affected.
ATC will discuss options, seek proportionate evidence only where needed and check any Highfield approval requirement.
Confirm the arrangement, responsible person, review point and any limits in writing before the activity or assessment.
Review the arrangement after feedback, a change in need, a course change or an awarding organisation decision.
Examples of support
Depending on the course and awarding rules, support may include accessible formats, additional time, rest breaks, assistive technology, a suitable room, communication support, a reader or scribe, alternative ways to access instructions, flexible scheduling or adjustments to online participation. Not every adjustment is suitable for every competence or assessment.
Requesting an adjustment
Tell ATC at application, enrolment or as soon as a need becomes known. You can contact your tutor or info@achieverstrainingcollege.co.uk. Explain the barrier and the support that helps; ATC may ask for proportionate evidence where required by an awarding organisation, but a lack of formal diagnosis should not automatically prevent a conversation.
Decision and recording
ATC will discuss practical options, consult the assessment or awarding requirements and confirm the agreed adjustment in writing. Records will be shared only with people who need them to arrange safe, fair delivery. An adjustment may be reviewed if the course, assessment method or learner’s circumstances change.
Limits and alternatives
An adjustment cannot change the knowledge, skill, competence, assessment criteria or safety standard being assessed. If a requested adjustment is not permitted, ATC will explain why and explore an alternative, a different assessment arrangement or a referral to the awarding organisation where appropriate.
Review and appeal
If you disagree with a decision, ask for clarification and then use the Appeals Policy, explaining what support was requested, what decision was made and why you believe the process or decision was unfair. A concern about service or delay can also be raised under the Complaints Policy.
